Renew Minnesota Launches Ad Campaign Demanding DFL Legislators Show Up for Work

MINNETONKA, Minn. – Today, Renew Minnesota announced the launch of a hard-hitting ad campaign pressuring DFL legislators to fulfill their duties and show up for work during the critical opening weeks of the 2025 legislative session. The campaign, featuring digital advertisements and targeted text messaging, focuses on vulnerable DFL legislators who have chosen to play political games over representing their constituents.

The campaign underscores the stark contrast between House Republicans, who continue to deliver results for their districts, and DFL legislators, who are refusing to show up for work while still collecting their taxpayer-funded salaries.

“Let’s call this what it is—an outrageous betrayal of the public trust,” said Mitchell Williamson, Chairman of Renew Minnesota. “Minnesotans work hard every day to provide for their families, and they rightfully expect their legislators to show the same dedication. Instead, DFL lawmakers are engaging in political games, abandoning their responsibilities, and threatening to shamelessly cash their taxpayer-funded paychecks while refusing to show up for work. They’re leaving their constituents high and dry. Renew Minnesota is determined to ensure voters know exactly who is standing up for them—and who is failing to do the job they were elected to do.”

The campaign comes amidst numerous examples of DFL legislators failing to address pressing constituent issues during their absence, while Republican legislators step in to help Minnesotans in need:

  • Rep. Lucy Rehm (DFL-Chanhassen): Ignored a constituent seeking assistance with a property deed while continuing to take her full taxpayer-funded salary.

  • Rep. Kari Rehrauer (DFL-Coon Rapids): Failed to protect a teacher facing retaliation for mandatory reporting obligations, leaving House Republicans to resolve the issue.

  • Rep. Brad Tabke (DFL-Shakopee): Neglected a small business owner dealing with licensing issues, jeopardizing jobs in his district.

  • Rep. Andy Smith (DFL-Rochester): Turned a blind eye to hunters’ concerns about unclear public hunting signage, leaving Republicans to step in and work with agencies to fix the problem.

“DFL legislators are treating their positions like a taxpayer-funded vacation while Minnesotans pay the price,” Williamson continued. “If they won’t show up to do their jobs, we’ll make sure their constituents know it—and hold them accountable at the ballot box.”

The campaign is now live and will continue throughout the legislative session’s opening weeks—or until Democrats show up to work. Renew Minnesota will ensure voters in these key districts understand the real consequences of the DFL’s failure to do the job they are being paid to do.
